PRESS RELEASE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
New York, New York, July 1, 2002

The National Chapter of the Association of Hispanic Healthcare Executives (AHHE) today announced that the Internal Revenue Service has approved their tax-exempt 501(c) (3) application. Now as a publicly supported organization, AHHE is authorized to apply for corporate, foundation and govenmental grants. The President of the Association of Hispanic Healthcare Executives (AHHE), George A. Zeppenfeldt-Cestero stated "This is a significant achievement in our development which will insure that the Hispanic community in the United States has one more voice in advocating for greater Hispanic diversity within senior management and leadership roles in the hospital, pharmaceutical and health care industry. This support includes a platform for greater representation on boards of directors and in senior appointed positions at the city, state and federal level. It is also an important milestone insuring that the Hispanic community has greater access to health care in both the private and public sectors."

The Association of Hispanic Healthcare Executives was founded in 1988 and has chapters in New York, San Diego, California and Sun City Arizona with developing chapters in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Nebraska and New Jersey. AHHE has established strong professional relationships with other organizations in the Latino community including the National Hispanic Medical Association and the National Association of Hispanic Nurses. As a founding organizational member of the Institute for Diversity in Health Management, AHHE is active in addressing diversity policy issues including recruitment/retention and mentoring of future professionals.

The association provides a wide range of educational programs related to its mission statement including their yearly Diversity in Healthcare Leadership Awards, The Latino Media Roundtable on Health Foums, Career Development Workshops and Undergraduate/Graduate Summer Internship Programs. As a result of their recent strategic planning retreat, which was funded in part by the American College of Healthcare Executives, the leadership of AHHE is embarking on a major chapter development initiative which reflects the growing interest by Latino executives to address both career and health disparities. In addition to their major corporate sponsors, including Roche Diagnostics Corporation, HCA, Prudential Financial, IntraMed Educational Group and Arcos Communications, AHHE is actively seeking partnerships with other organizations and corporations. With their non-profit status, AHHE will identify funding opportunities from foundations and governmental agencies to address leadership development, public policy and chapter development.
